Spring Aeration

Relieves compacted soil so water, air and nutrients reach the roots.

What it is

Core aeration removes small plugs of soil from the lawn. The openings let water, air and nutrients move down to the root zone.

Spring aeration is well suited to warm-season grasses, such as Bermuda and Zoysia, as they come out of dormancy and begin active growth.

Why it is commonly used

  • To relieve soil compacted by foot traffic, mowing and heavy clay.
  • To help water soak in rather than run off.
  • To encourage deeper, stronger roots heading into summer.

Signs it may be time

  • Water pooling or running off after rain
  • Hard soil that is difficult to push a screwdriver into
  • Thinning grass in high-traffic areas
